Volcano Egg Dyeing

I was trying to find something new and fun to do with my eggs this Easter because my kids are bored just dipping them in bowls of food coloring year after year. Since their science fair just got done we had plenty of baking soda and vinegar laying around the house when I ran across this article. I couldn’t help myself, I had to give it a try immediately.

What do you know, it actually worked! My kids had so much fun watching the bubbling off the egg that they actually started looking up why baking soda and vinegar react the way they do and why it creates a foaming mess. My kids actual got some educational experience through dying an egg. All these years of science fair volcanoes and they never had an interest in actually figuring out what causes the chemical reaction until they had a reason to apply the same reaction to another setting. The eggs even tasted just as good as any other dyed egg.

It looks like my family now has a new Easter tradition for dying eggs.
